On this page are just a few of the regulations and practices we comply with to provide users with the safest and most environmentally friendly magnetic products available. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our manufacturing process and standards compliance.

ASME B30.20 & ASME BTH-1 Standards

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has established standards for Below-The-Hook Lifting Devices. B30.20 standard applies to the marking, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and operation of all lifting devices. As applied to lifting magnets in which the operator of the lifting magnet is required to manually position the lifting magnet on the load and manually guide the load during its movement, or in close proximity to people. ASME BTH-1 addresses only the design requirements of a Below-The-Hook lifting device. The standard should be used in conjunction with ASME B30.20.

Lifting devices designed to this Standard shall comply with ASME B30.20 & ASME BTH-1 Below-The-Hook Lifting devices.

HACCP(Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)

HACCP Internationaloffers certification for equipment, materials, and services that are suitable for use in food facilities that operate in accordance with a HACCP-based food safety program. To be eligible for certification, items must have an impact on food safety or must contribute to food safety.

HACCP is an internationally recognized preventive risk management system and stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. HACCP-based Food Safety Programs are necessary to meet many regulatory, industry, and audit expectations. It addresses food safety from biological, chemical, and physical hazards by requiring the identification and control of potential hazards at specific points in production processes.

HACCP International Logo

The Industrial Magnetics Separation Magnets listed here are certified by HAACP International as suitable for direct contact with food products and for use in the operation of a HACCP based Food Safety Program.

Note: All of our HACCP International certified separation magnets require our Sanitary Grade product finish. Model's that utilize 1 inch diameter magnet tubes require our "HACCP" magnetic circuit design.

17 IMI employees, including regional managers, engineering, operations, and inside sales personnel, have been certified as HACCP Managers by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). This certification validates their working knowledge for meeting government, industry, and auditor requirements for the development of an effective HACCP plan, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

USDA Accepted Equipment

USDA AMS Accepted Equipment Logo

IMI Magnetic Separation Equipment has been accepted by the United States Department of Agriculture AMS (Agricultural Marketing Service) as in compliance with two food processing equipment programs:

  1. Dairy Equipment Review Program
  2. Meat and Poultry Equipment Review Program

The acceptance certifications are based on criteria, guidelines, and principles from two respective standards:

  1. USDA Guidelines for the Sanitary Design and Fabrication of Dairy Processing Equipment
  2. USDA Guidelines for the Evaluation and Certification of the Sanitary Design and Fabrication of Meat and Poultry Processing Equipment which utilizes NSF/ANSI/3-A SSI 14159-1-2014 Hygiene Requirements for the Design of Meat and Poultry Processing Equipment

RoHS Compliance

Ro HS Compliant

RoHS (Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances) regulations limit or ban specific substances -- lead, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants – in new electronic and electric equipment.

RoHS compliance means acting in full accordance with RoHS regulations and documenting your testing for RoHS-controlled substances.  All of our stock product is manufactured in compliance with RoHS regulations.

California Proposition 65

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, commonly known as Proposition 65 (Prop 65), requires businesses to provide a “clear and reasonable” warning before knowingly and intentionally exposing anyone in California to a listed chemical. The list which the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) published May 25, 2018 contains 975 chemicals that are known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Industrial Magnetics' products have been reviewed for listed content. Any products that contain listed chemicals and present exposure to a potential hazard are appropriately labeled with the required warning.

Inconsequential chemical content is also present in the composition of formed metal components, or in their surface treatment such as plating. This content does not exist in a leachable form on the product surfaces - it is permanent in the absence of destructive methods or abuse. For these products, the presence of the chemical alone does not present potential risk to a person’s health, and warnings are not indicated.

Individuals are encouraged to visit the California OEHHA website for additional information at https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65
