Over the past 10 years, the employees of Industrial Magnetics, Inc. have donated over $10,000 to help local charitable organizations through an innovative "Jeans for Charity" fundraiser.
The idea began in late 2003 by IMI’s Strategic Accounts Manager, Pete Friedrich, as a way to support local charities. Each quarter, a non-profit organization is chosen by an employee who volunteers to manage the program. On Fridays, a $1 donation is collected from each co-worker who has chosen to wear jeans to work that day. At the end of the quarter, a check is presented to the charitable organization and a new beneficiay is selected.
The initial recipient of the "Jeans for Charity" program was the Boyne City School system, who was looking to purchase an electronic sign board for their entry. Since that first fundraiser, employees have given money to a variety of local, national and international organizations, including Camp Quality, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan, Charlevoix Area Humane Society and Boyne Area Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens.
"This is one of the most personally rewarding projects that I’ve started here.", states Friedrich. "This program is entirely funded and directed by the employees of IMI. Our ownership bought into it whole heartily, agreeing to the casual jean days for a good cause. It’s truly been a fun, "win-win" for everyone."
