Industrial Magnetics, Inc. (IMI) recently introduced the Spout Line Inspection Magnet (SLIM™) for processors who require simple and frequent sampling of the product stream at designated inspection points on the line.
Intended for use in conjunction with a comprehensive foreign contamination program, the SLIM™ inspection magnets can be strategically placed at multiple locations throughout the process stream, such as discharge points of mixers, sifters, screws, in order to help pinpoint the origin of any ferrous metal contamination.
IMI’s chief business development officer, Dennis O’Leary, explains, “Ferrous contaminants can come from raw materials or other processing equipment. We developed the SLIM series to provide the opportunity to find and isolate ferrous contaminants at access points that may be utilized for other related product sampling and inspections. For example, if an inspection magnet is installed between the sifter and mixer, we can know that any captured metal contamination came either from the sifter, or from somewhere up the line."
The SLIM features a 52 Grade Rare Earth Opti-B™ balanced circuit: a high-performance blend of 9,500 gauss and 16.7 lbs. of pull strength on a 1/2” ball. The magnet is mounted to a flanged, door-plate assembly and situated in the product flow. To inspect for any ferrous or weakly magnetic stainless contaminants, the operator simply unclamps the door and extracts the assembly to perform a visual check.
